Report Claims Spurs Are Looking At Former PL Flop – Surely They Have The Wrong Player

|

The November international break was always going to see an up kick in transfer speculation, especially in light of Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles so far in the Premier League campaign of 2019/20 but with plenty of clamour for us to strengthen properly in the New Year, I fail to see how Lyon attacker Memphis Depay is the answer to any potential question.

Having flopped in dramatic style during his spell with Manchester United, the talented 25-year-old has got himself back on track out in the French Ligue 1, and he’s bagged 14 goals across all competitions (including Dutch internationals) so far this season.

Given the differences in the divisions though, and the fact he struggled so badly previously, I can’t believe the reports stating that we are ready to make a £50million offer for him.

There were better options, at more believable prices, during the summer that wouldn’t come with the baggage and instant pressure Depay’s arrival would bring, and in any event, surely we have greater priorities within the squad to deal with. If we’re watching Lyon for a striker, wouldn’t Moussa Dembele be a more likely candidate – all things considered?

More importantly, would we want to deal with Lyon again anyway after Jean-Michel Aulas’ continued antics?

For £50m Would You Have Depay Or Dembele?
